ABC Catalyst would like you to participate
in their nationwide ladybird survey.
1. Find Ladybirdsin your backyard
2. Send your pictures to ABC Catalyst
3. Contribute to Science
4. Win a book on Ladybirds
See if you can identify your finds using
their common
ladybirds gallery. If they're not
there go to the CSIRO site
to identify the species and send your pictures and observations using the form
found at http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/ladybirds/default.htm
Most of us think of these beautiful little
creatures as either red or orange with black spots, but there is a much greater
variety of ladybird beetles than you might think. In fact there are more than
500 species of Coccinellidae in Australia.
How many can you find?
Identifying the Invaders
Considered as a pest, Harmonia axyridis,
a large species of ladybird originating from Asia, is on our doorstep. We want you to keep an eye for it. Check out
the Invaders Gallery, so you know
what they look like.
